Wheel Fitment Guide

Understanding Wheel Fitment

Getting the right wheel fitment is crucial for both appearance and performance. This guide breaks down the key measurements you need to know when choosing custom wheels for your vehicle.

Diameter

The wheel size

What It Is

The diameter is the size of the wheel measured in inches from one edge to the other, passing through the center. Common sizes range from 15" to 24".

Why It Matters

Larger wheels give a more aggressive stance but can affect ride quality. Your vehicle's brake caliper clearance and fender space determine the maximum diameter you can fit.

  • 15"-17": Classic muscle, street machines
  • 18"-20": Modern sports sedans, SUVs
  • 22"-24": Show cars, luxury vehicles

Width

How wide the wheel is

What It Is

Width is measured in inches from the inner lip to the outer lip of the wheel. Wider wheels provide better grip and a more aggressive look.

Why It Matters

Width determines what tyre sizes you can fit and how the wheel sits in your fender. Too wide and you risk rubbing; too narrow and you lose performance.

  • 7"-8": Standard fitment, daily drivers
  • 9"-10": Performance street, staggered setups
  • 12"-15": Pro street, drag racing

Offset (ET)

How the wheel sits

What It Is

Offset is the distance from the wheel's centerline to the mounting face, measured in millimeters. Positive offset pushes the wheel inward; negative offset pushes it outward.

Why It Matters

Offset controls how far the wheel sticks out from or tucks into your fender. It affects your vehicle's track width, handling, and appearance.

  • +40 to +50: Deep dish, tucked fitment
  • +20 to +35: Flush with fender
  • 0 to +15: Aggressive poke, wide stance

PCD (Bolt Pattern)

Will it fit your car?

What It Is

PCD (Pitch Circle Diameter) is the bolt pattern, written as number of studs × diameter in mm. For example, 5x120 means 5 studs on a 120mm circle.

Why It Matters

The PCD must match your vehicle exactly or the wheel won't bolt on. Some wheels are multi-PCD (e.g., 5x108-120) and fit multiple vehicles.

  • 5x120: BMW, Holden Commodore VE+
  • 5x114.3: Ford, Nissan, Mazda, Toyota
  • 5x112: Audi, Mercedes-Benz, VW
